Jeremy Chestnut

Before joining the program, Jeremy was nearing his 20th year in the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a medic and gradually took on responsibilities in learning and development. He began designing and facilitating training for medical scenarios, which sparked his interest in instructional design.

As his military career was winding down, Jeremy faced a pivotal decision: continue working long shifts in high-stress environments or pivot to a career with better work-life balance and long-term potential. After discovering Devlin Peck’s content, he recognized instructional design as a perfect fit—his "aha moment"—and committed fully to the career shift.

Jeremy credits the bootcamp with accelerating his transition and giving him the tools, mentorship, and confidence he needed to succeed. He found the community aspect of the program especially valuable—not just the support from his assigned mentor, but from the entire team and fellow bootcampers. His cohort became a tight-knit group that helped troubleshoot, encouraged one another, and even opened doors: one teammate referred him to his very first ID interview.

Jeremy’s minimalist portfolio stands out for its clarity and intentional design. Each project is presented in a clean, distraction-free environment that allows his storytelling and instructional design process to shine.

His flagship project is a fully animated Vyond learning experience that teaches nurses about transmission-based illness precautions. The module cleverly uses visual storytelling and character-driven scenarios to guide learners through realistic decision points.

One unique design element is a subtle visual hint system that helps learners identify the correct actions after making mistakes—an great solution that reinforces learning without breaking immersion.

Thanks to the skills, tools, and confidence he built in the program, Jeremy successfully transitioned from the military into a civilian instructional design role.

He is now an Instructional Designer at Educology Solutions, where he puts his new skills to use creating engaging learning experiences.

The combination of hands-on tool training and mentorship helped Jeremy hit the ground running in his new role, bridging the gap between his past experience in medical education and the demands of corporate instructional design.

As I was nearing the end of my time in the Air Force, I had to make a career decision. Did I want to keep working long shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, or could I use the training experience I’d gained to start something new? When I discovered Devlin Peck’s videos about instructional design, it was an aha moment—it felt like exactly what I was looking for.

Being part of the community was actually the best part of the program. The pros, the mentors, and even the other participants were all so supportive. We helped each other troubleshoot, encouraged each other through challenges, and one teammate even helped me land my first interview. That sense of teamwork made a huge difference.

Before the program, I’d never touched tools like Storyline or Vyond. The program was immensely helpful in bridging that gap. I went from having experience with medical training to being ready to step into an ID role and contribute from day one.
