Who I am

I broke into instructional design by building a portfolio during the first semester of my master's program, and I landed my first freelance client before I even graduated. Freelancing grew into a full eLearning business, building projects for household-name brands with tools like Articulate Storyline and xAPI. I've also been sharing what I learn along the way. What started as free guides and YouTube videos grew until helping people into the field became my day job.

Today, most of my time goes toward devlin.ai and Peck Academy, the two companies that grew out of that same mission. Behind the scenes, DevlinOS, the AI operating system my team and I built, runs Peck Academy and this site, so I can keep the content free and keep publishing at this pace.

What I believe

• I give away everything I learn as I learn it. Nothing on this site sits behind an email form, and I do not publish teaser versions of anything.
• I built my career by doing real projects and getting feedback on them, and that is still the fastest way in. A strong portfolio says more than any resume or degree.
• AI will not replace instructional designers. It makes the good ones dramatically more capable.
• Claims about this field should come with data. That is why I run the Instructional Design Survey, an independent research program, instead of guessing. Its published reports are the Instructional Designer Salary Report and the Instructional Design Hiring Manager Report, and every report stays at its link as new research replaces it.
